Party leader: National unity ensures nation’s interest
The national unity bloc should be built and strengthened to ensure the nation’s best interests and each person’s basic rights and legitimate aspirations, said Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh.
Mr. Manh emphasised this at a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam National United Front, now called the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), in Hanoi on November 17.
Present at the ceremony were State President Nguyen Minh Triet, Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Phu Trong, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung, Chairman of the VFF Central Committee Huy Dam, Party’s, State’s, and Government’s former leaders, revolutionary veterans, Vietnamese Heroic mothers and people.

VFF Committee Chairman Huynh Dam reviewed the VFF’s glorious history and its contributions to the national cause of defense and construction.
VFF has always been reinforced over the past 80 years. By uniting all classes of people and lauching patriotic and emulation campaigns, he said, the Front contributed much to the nation’s two struggles for independence in the past and the country’s economic development and poverty reduction at present.
On behalf of the Party and State, General Secretary Manh expressed his gratitude to the late President Ho Chi Minh, the symbol of the national great unity.

He highlighted VFF’s achievements during the national struggles for independence and during the country’s renewal process.
Mr. Manh said with different operation methods and under organisational structures and names, the VFF has always been one of the factors that determine the victory of the Vietnamese revolution over the past 80 years.
In the recent 25 years, the VFF has played an important role in building the national great unity bloc and the Party and State and reinforcing the close relationship between the Party and people, he said, adding that the thought of national great unity bloc has been actively responded to by people of all classes and helped the country win great achievements and overcome difficulties.
The General Secretary asked the VFF to strengthen leadership, education, and communication to make people aware of the significance of national unity.
Also at the ceremony, State President Nguyen Minh Triet awarded the VFF the Gold Star Order for the second time.
