Party leader, Finnish President witness signing of bilateral cooperation documents
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam and Finnish President Alexander Stubb witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents between Vietnam and Finland during To Lam’s official visit with his spouse and the Vietnamese high-level delegation to Finland on the afternoon of October 21 (local time) at the Presidential Palace.
The signed agreements include a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation in the environment, biodiversity, and climate change between Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Finland’s Ministry of the Environment; a Memorandum of Understanding between Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance and Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs on supporting and promoting the preparation and implementation of projects funded by Finland’s Public Sector Investment Facility; and a Memorandum of Understanding between Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance and the Finnish Export Credit Agency.
Finland established diplomatic relations with Vietnam on January 25, 1973. The Finnish Embassy in Hanoi was opened in 1974, and Vietnam established its Embassy in Helsinki at the end of 2005.
The two countries have maintained and developed strong traditional friendship and all-around cooperation. During Vietnam’s most difficult periods, Finland was among the leading development aid providers, supporting emblematic projects such as the Finnish Water Supply initiatives in Hanoi and Hai Phong.
This official visit of General Secretary To Lam and his spouse, along with the Vietnamese high-level delegation, comes as the two countries mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1973–2023), highlighting a sustainable cooperation journey and opening a new phase for the next 50 years.
The visit provides an important opportunity for both sides to review past achievements, outnline major orientations, rejuvenate relations, and take traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation to new heights.
