Party leader concludes Belgium and EU visit

(VOV) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong left Brussels on January 20, wrapping up his three-day official visit to Belgium and the European Union (EU).

During a number of meetings over the three days, the Party chief, Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy agreed on measures to further promote the ties of friendship and cooperation between Vietnam, Belgium, and the EU in general.

Trong sent a message thanking Belgian and EU leaders for the warm welcomes he received during his stay.

Trong stated his confidence that the implementation of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) and acceleration of Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations will effectively advance cooperative relations between the two sides, delivering mutual benefits and promoting peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and across the world.

The Party leader and his delegation left Belgium the same day for their official visit to Italy at the invitation of President Giorgio Napolitano.
