Party chief presents Hero of People’s Armed Forces title to Vietnam People’s Navy
VOV.VN - The Vietnam People’s Navy held a ceremony in Hai Phong city on the morning of February 28 to receive the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces title for the third time, with Party General Secretary To Lam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission, attending and delivering directive remarks.
Highlighting the Navy’s achievements in safeguarding national maritime sovereignty, Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem, Commander of the Navy, reviewed the history of the service’s formation, combat and development, as well as its particularly outstanding contributions to strengthening overall strength and combat readiness of the Vietnam People’s Army.
In safeguarding national sovereignty over seas and islands, the Navy has consistently affirmed its absolute loyalty to the Party, the Fatherland and the People. It has regularly studied and accurately forecast developments, proactively advised and proposed measures to the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defence, the Party and the State, and handled situations flexibly and in accordance with established responses, especially complex and sensitive situations at sea, without being caught off guard or placed in a passive position, firmly protecting maritime sovereignty and economic activities at sea, and maintaining a peaceful and stable maritime environment for national development.
With the motto “Helping the people is a combat mission in peacetime and an order from the heart,” the Navy has stood side by side with the people in times of hardship, natural disasters and distress.
The image of naval officers and soldiers and their vessels braving rough seas and strong winds to provide timely assistance and safeguard lives and property has become a noble symbol, further highlighting the cherished qualities of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers -Naval servicemen” in the new era.
On behalf of the Party and State leadership, Party General Secretary To Lam presented the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces title to the Navy and requested that in the time ahead the service focus on thoroughly grasping and firmly implementing the Party’s viewpoints, guidelines and policies, and the State’s laws and policies on military and national defense affairs, with emphasis on new thinking and perceptions on national defense and safeguarding the Fatherland in accordance with the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress.
The Navy was urged to proactively study and firmly grasp the situation, and promptly advise and propose to the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence solutions that are “correct” and “on target,” ensuring both the firm protection of national sovereignty over seas and islands and the maintenance of a peaceful and stable maritime environment for national construction and development.
The service was also asked to effectively implement the directive of “two steadfast commitments, two accelerations, two preventions” and “five firmnesses,” build comprehensively strong agencies and units that are “exemplary and typical,” with particular emphasis on improving the quality of political education and ideological leadership; educating officers and soldiers to maintain steadfast political resolve, firmly grasp their tasks, partners and adversaries, and the plots and tactics of hostile forces; and strongly promoting unity, self-reliance, confidence, resilience and national pride to overcome difficulties and fulfill assigned missions.
He stressed the need to continue building a Party organization within the Navy that is strong in political stance, ideology, organization, ethics and personnel; to continuously enhance the leadership capacity and combat strength of Party committees and organizations; to promote the cultural values of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers – Naval servicemen,” turning those values into an internal resource and a strong source of motivation for building a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern Vietnam People’s Navy; to build a contingent of cadres with sufficient qualities and capabilities to meet task requirements in the new situation; and to ensure policies and conditions that safeguard the material and spiritual life and advancement of officers, soldiers and employees.
