General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has visited the authorities and people of Hanoi, offering incense to the Statue of King Ly Thai To.

Mr Trong, who is also Chairman of the National Assembly, highly praised the city’s accomplishments in 2010. He highlighted the fact that the city recorded GDP growth of 11 percent despite the challenges from its boundary expansion and the world economy.

The Party leader asked the city authorities to gather and draw lessons from their experiences and shortcomings and devise a long-term strategy to develop the capital and complete the Law on the Capital City.

At the meeting, Mr Trong briefed participants on the major issues discussed at the 11th National Party Congress and stressed that the current matter of most concern is the gap between the rich and poor. Therefore, he said, due attention should be given to social progress and keeping the Communist Party a truly revolutionary party by fighting bureaucracy, wastefulness and its separation from the people.

Mr Trong extended the Party and State’s Tet wishes to the people of Hanoi, especially the beneficiaries of social policies and families that had contributed to the State and Revolution.
