While meeting with Great Supreme Patriarch Tep Vong and Great Supreme Patriarch Bou Kry on December 7, Mr. Trong spoke highly of Cambodian Buddhism’s contribution to the prosperous development of the country as well as the region. He said in Vietnam, Buddhism and other religions have always joined hands to work toward a good religious and secular life for the sake of national development.
The Vietnamese Party chief wished the two dignitaries a long life and hoped they will contribute more to Vietnam-Cambodia friendship.
For their part, Great Supreme Patriarchs Tep Vong and Bou Kry said they were thankful for Vietnam’s assistance to Cambodia. They also prayed for Mr. Trong and his entourage’s good health, happiness, and prosperity and for growth in the friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam.
At a meeting with Vietnamese Embassy staff in Cambodia, Mr. Trong asked them to uphold the national spirit and help boost mutual understanding and trust.
He also asked Vietnamese agencies abroad to spare no effort to contribute to the process of national construction and defence.
The Party leader highly valued the establishment of a Learning Encouragement Fund to assist Vietnamese pupils in Cambodia and presented the Fund with US$50,000.
** On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Sar Kheeng, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. Both sides agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in combating transnational crimes between Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior.
** Also on December 7, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh had a working session with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Hor Namhong.
