Nghe An provincial People’s Committee and businesses have signed ten investment agreements worth VND9,636 billion to carry out projects in the locality.

The signing ceremony was held at the annual meeting of Nghe An’s leaders and investors in Vinh City on February 12.

The Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) committed to assist the social welfare programme (healthcare, education and training) and build up new rural areas in the first phase with total capital of VND15 billion for Nam Dan district, and support VND500 million for Nghi Xuan commune, Nghi Loc district for education and training. BIDV also promised to lend Nghe An businesses VND3,085 billion.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung emphasised Nghe An province, as well as businesses and investors must work with each other to create new strengths and focus on the quality of projects to develop quickly and strongly.

He noted that Nghe An has the advantage of abundant human resources (1.8 million labourers), however, to attract investors, it should pay attention to infrastructure and create its services to develop projects such as banking, telecommunications, healthcare, education and training.

Mr. Hung also expressed his pleasure that, apart from doing business, businesses attach special importance to social welfare programmes that will increase people’s standards of living.

The annual meeting aimed to assess the deployment of previous agreements and discuss measures to resolve issues and push the speed of implementation, while continuing to invest in advertising, and the environment and to promote newly-registered projects.

The event this year attracted representatives of central ministries and departments, along with over 150 groups, investors and businesses that have been investing into Nghe An.

From 2006 to 2010, 287 projects have been granted licenses in Nghe An with a total investment capital of VND99,275 billion.
