On November 28, the 13th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee held an online conference with NA delegations from 63 provinces and cities to discuss improvements to increase the quality and efficiency of the legislative body’s operations.

In his speech, NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu highlighted the need to improve the quality of NA operations, as well as those of its committees, in order to meet voter requirements and ensure the NA is a powerful body representing the State and the people.

NA Vice Chairman Luu asked deputies to propose ways to effectively implement the NA Standing Committee’s 2011 resolution on improving NA sessions, as well as the work of the NA Ethnicity Council and other NA committees, and seek better ways to interact with voters and provide information for NA deputies.

NA Office Chairman, Nguyen Hanh Phuc presented a draft of specific responsibilities and mechanisms for relevant agencies to coordinate in implementing the resolution.

NA deputies agreed to assign major responsibilities to the NA Office, which coordinates with the Government Office and the Party Central Committee Office in sending NA deputies’ opinions to relevant ministries and sectors before they are submitted to the NA Standing Committee.

Vice Chairman of the NA Committee for External Affairs Ngo Duc Manh said it is essential that ministries and sectors take a more active role and more responsibility for drafting laws and sending them to NA deputies on schedule.

Many NA deputies also proposed intensifying the NA’s supervisory activities and creating more favourable conditions for voters to join meetings with NA deputies.
