New Vietnam embassy in Ireland marks step forward in bilateral relations

VOV.VN - Vietnam officially inaugurated its embassy in Ireland at a ceremony in Dublin on March 26, marking an important milestone in Vietnam-Ireland relations.

The ceremony was attended on the Vietnamese side by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, Vietnamese Ambassador to Ireland Pham Toan Thang, and Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Ireland Patrick McKillen.

On the Irish side, participants included Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora Neale Richmond; Director General for Economic Division and Ireland Global Colm Hayes; Director of the Asia-Pacific Division Iseult Fitzgerald; and members of parliament Ann Graves, in charge of the Ireland-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, and Barry Ward, Chair of the European Union Affairs Committee of Ireland’s Lower House.

Representatives from Irish ministries, parliament, foreign missions, partners, major businesses, Irish friends of Vietnam and the Vietnamese community in Ireland also attended the event.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang highlighted the inauguration of the Vietnamese embassy in Ireland as an important milestone, taking place in the year marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1996-2026).

The event opens a new chapter in Vietnam-Ireland relations and affirms Vietnam’s strong commitment to enhancing comprehensive cooperation with Ireland across politics, trade, education, science and technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

The establishment of the embassy also shows the attention of the Party and State of Vietnam to the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Ireland, and realizes a commitment made during the state visit by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam in October 2024.

On behalf of Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Minister of State Neale Richmond congratulated the opening of the Vietnamese embassy, noting the strong development of bilateral relations in recent years, reflected in the inauguration ceremony in Dublin.

He said the opening of the embassy following the state visit in 2024 demonstrates closer ties and a shared commitment to advancing cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, finance, agriculture, science and technology, economy, tourism and higher education.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Pham Toan Thang said the opening of Vietnam’s first embassy in Ireland shows new prospects for cooperation between the two countries. The embassy will expand diplomatic activities, support business and education links, and better serve the Vietnamese community in Ireland.

Representatives of the Vietnamese community in Ireland, including Vietnamese associations, intellectual groups in the UK and Ireland, and student associations, attended the ceremony and expressed their support for the establishment.

On this occasion, Ambassador Pham Toan Thang also thanked the Irish Government, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, relevant agencies, partners, friends and the Vietnamese community for their support throughout the process of establishing the Vietnamese embassy in Ireland.
