A group of Mexican-Vietnamese friendship parliamentarians debuted at the headquarters of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies on September 8.

In his speech, the group’s President, Pedro Vaxquez Gonzalez, who is also coordinator of Mexico’s Labour Party parliamentarians in the Mexican Congress’ lower house, said that the main mission of the group was to strengthen relations between Vietnam and Mexico in the current context of globalization.

On behalf of the Vietnam National Assembly, Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Van Que said the establishment of the group is a landmark in the development of cooperative ties between the two countries, which is expected to help raise bilateral trade turnover to over US$1 billion in 2011.

Mr Que gave his thanks to the Mexican people, especially those in the capital city and Acapulco, for their feelings toward Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, shown in the cities’ statues of Ho Chi Minh to celebrate his 120th birthday.

After the ceremony, all the group’s members and guests visited a photographic exhibition on Vietnam.

Mr Gonzalez had previously presided over a ceremony to announce the release of a book of a selection of President Ho Chi Minh’s writings.
