New ambassadors from Iran, Mozambique, Georgia, Eritrea and Ethiopia presented their credentials to State President Truong Tan Sang in Hanoi on May 28.

At a reception for the Iranian ambassador, President Sang said Vietnam always attaches great importance to developing relations with foreign countries, including Iran, and hoped that both sides will continue to support each other at regional and international forums.

As a member of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Vietnam will send a delegation to the 60th NAM Conference that will be held in Iran, Mr Sang said.

He conveyed his best regards to his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and said he hopes the talks between the P5+1 group and Iran that will take place in Russia will be a great success.

The Iranian ambassador spoke highly of Vietnam’s target of becoming a modern industrialized nation by 2020, adding that his country wants to contribute to Vietnam’s development goals.

Both countries should continue to promote exchanges of high-levels visits and trade cooperation for mutual benefits, said the Iranian diplomat.

President Sang welcomed the ambassador from Mozambique to his first time assuming duties in Vietnam, saying that Vietnam is ready to expand cooperation with Mozambique in various fields as well as at regional and international forums.

Vietnam and Mozambique should effectively tap into potential areas for cooperation such as agriculture, construction, economics and trade to enhance their bilateral relations, said President Sang.

The Mozambique ambassador said his presence in Vietnam aims to bring the relationship between the two countries to a higher level and conveyed a letter from Mozambique’s President inviting President Sang to visit his country in the near future.

Welcoming the ambassador from Georgia, President Sang asked him to spend time collecting information from Vietnamese ministries and sectors in order to increase bilateral cooperation in education, training, economics and trade.

The Georgian ambassador said he is very impressed by the tremendous achievements Vietnam has recorded over the past years, saying that he will do his best to deepen the friendship between the two nations.

President Sang told the Eritrean ambassador that he is very pleased with the fine bilateral relations between Vietnam and Eritrea, as well as their reciprocal support at international forums.

Vietnam is willing to share experiences with Eritrea towards stronger cooperation in economics, trade, agriculture and seafood processing, Mr Sang said.

The Eritrean ambassador said he hopes his term of office in Vietnam will serve as a bridge for both countries to promote cooperation, saying that Eritrea will learn much from Vietnam’s experience in boosting national development and raising its international status.

President Sang highlighted the fine relations between Vietnam and Ethiopia over the past 40 years while receiving the new Ethiopian ambassador. He said economic and trade cooperation is still far from matching the two nations’ potential, therefore inter-government committees need to review agreements and protocols to enhance bilateral cooperation for mutual benefit.

The Ethiopian ambassador praised Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements, especially in reducing poverty, adding that Vietnam’s achievements will be good examples for his country to follow.

He also extended regards from the Ethiopian President to President Sang while expressing the desire for developing stronger relations between Vietnam and Ethiopia.
