Nationwide online conference convened for NA and local council election preparations
VOV.VN - The National Election Council held a nationwide online conference at the National Assembly House on February 26 to begin preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.
The event was connected to 34 sites in provinces and centrally run cities throughout the nation.
Those in attendance at the National Assembly House included National Assembly (NA)Chairman Tran Thanh Man; President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai; Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh; Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan; members of the National Election Council; and representatives of ministries and agencies.
In her opening remarks, National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh, a member of the National Election Council, stressed that the conference is of great importance in reviewing achieved results and identifying difficulties and obstacles to take measures to direct the successful organization of the election scheduled for March 15.
This election introduces several new elements, including the operation of a two-tier local government model, shortened timelines for procedural steps and greater application of information technology. With just over two weeks remaining and a substantial workload ahead, Nguyen Thi Thanh acknowledged the proactiveness and responsibility shown by localities and relevant agencies in completing three rounds of consultation, while urging greater efforts to ensure thorough, careful and coordinated preparations for the decisive stage ahead.
The Politburo has given special attention to the election and issued an important conclusion covering four areas: personnel work; ensuring the full number of NA deputies, including full-time deputies at the central level, and the full number of People’s Council deputies; information and communication work; and information and reporting mechanisms.
At a national conference on election preparations held on November 15, 2025, Party General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the election is an occasion to affirm the Party’s leadership capacity, the State’s governance effectiveness and the operational efficiency of the political system following the completion of organizational streamlining. The election has been identified as a central political task for 2026.
“The task facing the entire Party, people and armed forces at this time is to guarantee a successful election conducted in a democratic, lawful, safe and economical manner, truly becoming a major festival of the entire people,” Nguyen Thi Thanh said, while calling on participants to proactively raise proposals, particularly on remaining issues.
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, who also serves as Vice Chairwoman of the National Election Council, then chaired the session during which central and local agencies presented reports on preparations and implementation of election-related tasks.
