On August 31, there was a celebration in Ho Chi Minh City attended by senior officials from ministries, revolutionary veterans, heroic Vietnamese mothers, heroes of People’s Armed Forces, and thousands of others. Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee, Le Hoang Quan, reminded the audience of the significance of the August Revolution and the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945.

He emphasized pride of the city’s Party and people in bearing President Ho Chi Minh’s name and their determination to overcome difficulties to build a developed city, and contribute to the cause of national construction and defense.

Representing the city’s intellectuals and overseas Vietnamese, Dr. Luong Bach Van, vice chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City, expressed her belief in the state’s policies to utilize the potential of overseas and domestic intellectuals.

Also at the celebrations, 18 organisations and individuals received the hero of the People’s Armed Forces title, granted by the State President, for their outstanding contributions in war time.

** On the same day, a grand ceremony was held in Binh Thuan province to celebrate the day. Huynh Van Ty, the Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, reviewed the achievements of the province’s Party and people.

** The day before, the south central province of Phu Yen organised a meeting to honour Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, and an exchange between 70 heroic Vietnamese mothers and representatives of the province’s younger generation.

** Binh Dinh province had a variety of activities to celebrate the National Day including a singing contest, held by the provincial Farmers’ Association, a display of traditional pottery products by the province’s museum, and the introduction of a memoir by Tran Kim Hung, hero of the People’s Armed Forces.

** Binh Duong province will organise a firework display on the evening of September 2 and a pottery festival opening on September 4 to welcome the National Day and the Thang Long – Hanoi millennial anniversary.
