The session reviewed the organization of the 43rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) the 17th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and other related meetings while monitoring preparations for the 17th ASEAN Summit to be held in Hanoi in late October as well as other activities concerning Vietnam’s ASEAN Chair.
Dao Viet Trung, Deputy Foreign Minister and the Committee’s General Secretary along with representatives from sub-committees, reviewed the committees’ activities in the last few years and devised future tasks.
Mr Khiem praised relevant parties for having successfully organised the 16th ASEAN Summit, the 43rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the 17th ASEAN Regional Forum, meetings of the ASEAN Economic Community and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community and other related meetings.
Vietnam has efficiently fulfilled two thirds of its job in its year as ASEAN Chair, Mr Khiem emphasised.
He asked designated agencies to accelerate their preparations for the upcoming 17th ASEAN Summit, the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting with its partners (ADMM+) and the Meeting of the ASEAN Chiefs of Homeland Security (MACHOS), all scheduled to take place towards the end of this year.
