Over the past 35 years, the committee has overcome numerous difficulties to protect the country’s sovereignty and national interests.
The committee helped to settle the land border issue and demarcate the Gulf of Tonkin with China, finish the demarcation and planting of border markers on the border with Laos, and sign a treaty on border demarcation with Cambodia in 1985.
The committee also played an important role in the signing of an agreement on maritime demarcation with Thailand in 1997 and another agreement on demarcating continental shelves with Indonesia in 2003.
It submitted to the United Nations a report on defining the boundaries beyond Vietnam’s continental shelf.
In addition, the committee has advised the government on management of the country’s territories and borders and in raising public awareness of these issues.
The Party and State have awarded the committee many orders and medals for various endeavours.
