Addressing the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who is also Head of the Central Anti-corruption Steering Committee, reaffirmed the Party, State and entire society’s determination in fighting corruption.
He said the fourth Plenum of the Party Central Committee had emphasized preventing moral and political degradation among some Party members and cadres, especially leaders and managers at all level, as the most urgent measure to combat corruption.
The Government leader highlighted initial achievements in the implementation of the Party Central Committee Resolution 3 and the Anti-corruption Law, which have been highly appreciated by international friends.
PM Dung asked participants in the conference to point out shortcomings in implementing the resolution and discuss measures to improve the anti-corruption work in the future.
According to a report presented by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Party inspection teams have disciplined 2,953 out of 11,594 Party members involved in corruption cases.
The Central Inspection Commission has proposed disciplining four members of the Party Central Committee, 17 secretaries, vice secretaries, and members of provincial and municipal Party’s Civil Affairs Committees, and two Party Committee secretaries cum Presidents of State-owned economic groups.
Over the past five years, it has proposed administration punishments to 1,619 organizations and 11,973 individuals and sent 464 corruption cases to investigation agencies to reclaim the loss of more than VND20 trillion and nearly US$1 million from the State budget.
In the mean time, its has brought legal proceedings against 1,458 other corruption cases involving 3,151 persons, prosecuted 1,603 cases involving 3,889 arrestees, and solved 1,455 cases involving 3,387 persons.
