VOV.VN - The country has high hopes of further promoting the friendship and co-operation that exists with Colombia, especially in the fields of economics, trade, culture, education, and tourism, by fully tapping into the potential of each side.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela and Colombia Le Viet Duyen made the statement while recently presenting credentials from President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to Colombian President Ivan Duque via an online format.

The Ambassador used the occasion to gratefully thank President Duque for agreeing to accept him as Vietnamese Ambassador to Colombia whilst he resides in Caracas, Venezuela. He went on to express his desire to receive greater attention from the President for co-ordination efforts with Colombian ministries and sectors so that he can fulfill all assigned tasks during his term. In response, President Duque thanked President Phuc for extending his best regards and warm wishes, expressing his confidence that Ambassador Duyen would fulfill his responsibilities as  a way to further strengthen the friendship and multifaceted co-operation between the two countries across multiple fields.

Both sides originally established diplomatic relations on January 1, 1979. Over the past four decades, the two countries' relations have enjoyed consistent development, with bilateral trade turnover witnessing steady annual increases.

Last year’s two-way trade turnover reached more than US$640 million, whilst the two nations are striving to elevate bilateral trade to US$1 billion in the near future.
