NA leader chairs APPF-26 rehearsal

VOV.VN -National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to welcome regional parliamentarians to the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26) while chairing a rehearsal on January 16 in preparation for the important event.

The APPF-26 is expected to attract as many as 330 delegates from 22 parliaments from across the Asia-Pacific region.

After the rehearsal, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and NA Vice Chaiwoman Tong Thi Phong double-checked and reviewed preparations for the opening ceremony at the National Assembly House.

By this time, all preparations for the opening ceremony and sessions of the APPF -26 agenda have been finalized.

The top legislator told reporters that the forum demonstrates the the Vietnam NA’s increasing role and prestige in parliamentary diplomatic activities in the region and the wider world.

The event will contribute to the overall success of the country’s diplomacy and enhance its relations with other regional counterparts and to promote its innovative, dynamic and reliable image among international friends, she said.

The APPF was officially formed in Tokyo, Japan, in 1993. 
The forum now groups 27 members: Australia, Cambodia, Canada, China, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, the Marshall Islands, Mexico, Micronesia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, the RoK, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam.
