NA holds online meeting to bolster Vietnam-Russia parliamentary cooperation

VOV.VN - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Khac Dinh on November 7 chaired an online meeting between the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Group of the Vietnamese NA and the Russian Federation Council's Group for Cooperation with the Vietnamese legislative body.

Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh thanked First Deputy Speaker of the Russian Federation Council and head of the Group for Cooperation with the Vietnamese NA, Andrey Vladimirovich Yatskin, for sending a congratulatory letter on the 80th National Day of Vietnam.

He also welcomed the proposal to hold the online meeting, highlighting the spirit of proactive, substantive, and regular cooperation between the two legislatures.

Dinh emphasized the hope that both sides will soon finalize the schedule for the visit. He affirmed that the Vietnamese NA is ready to coordinate to ensure all favorable conditions for the delegation, aiming for effective and substantive exchanges. Representatives of the two Friendship Groups will discuss specific content, technical and logistical issues, and report to their respective Group Chairs for official agreement.

He expressed confidence that the forthcoming visit will boost ties between the parliaments and people of Vietnam and Russia, while opening new opportunities for practical and effective cooperation.

At the meeting, Yatskin extended sympathy for the losses and damages caused by recent storms and natural disasters in Vietnam. He noted that the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership has continued to see positive development, evidenced through visits by senior leaders, multilevel delegation exchanges, and both in-person and online meetings, including the current session.

Yatskin also highlighted that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Russia (January 30, 1950-January 30, 2025), with both countries celebrating major milestones Vietnam’s 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the 80th National Day with Russian military participation, and Russia’s 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, attended by Party General Secretary To Lam at Red Square.

He underlined that inter-parliamentary cooperation remains a cornerstone of the Vietnam-Russia partnership, continuously strengthened and effectively developed. In 2024, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Speaker of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko signed a cooperation agreement between the two sides.

Dinh valued Russia’s condolences and contributions to parliamentary diplomacy, noting that many initiatives under the cooperation agreement are already yielding positive results. Both sides expressed hope that bilateral relations, particularly inter-parliamentary diplomacy, will continue to deepen, becoming increasingly substantive and effective.
