According to Mexican news agency NOTIMEX, at a reception for National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, the President of the Mexican Senate, José González Morfin praised Vietnam as a great example of resilience and industriousness. He said the country has developed from a subsidy to a competitive economy with a variety of highly valued products.
Senate President Morfin said Vietnam’s admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO) has benefited its economic reform and exports.
Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Mexico reached US$915 million in 2010, up 28 percent compared to 2009, demonstrating that Mexico is an important trade partner of Vietnam in Latin America, he noted.
Argonmexico.com quoted two senators of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), Jesus Garibay Garcia and Alfonso Sanchez Anaya, as saying that the two developing countries share many similarities so they should work together to overcome challenges and consolidate their positions.
The two senators also acknowledged Vietnam’s efforts in poverty reduction and proposed that Vietnam share its experience with Mexico.
