A delegate of the 12th National Assembly has asked authorities of the central province of Quang Ngai to pay more attention to Ly Son island district, to disseminate information on defending sea and island sovereignty, and to develop seafood and other spearhead economies.

The Chairman of the NA’s Committee for Defence and Security Le Quang Binh made the statement during his inspection tour of Ly Son district on August 2.

The Deputy Chair of the provincial People’s Committee, Truong Ngoc Nhi, briefed the NA delegation on Quang Ngai’s achievements in socio-economic development and defence and security in the past years and in the first half of 2010.

Nhi spoke of fishing activities in the East Sea and Quang Ngai and Ly Son’s work to defend sea and island sovereignty as well as the advantages and difficulties the province is facing.

The Chairman of the Ly Son District People’s Committee Vo Xuan Huyen reported that his district’s economic sectors recorded an annual increase of 15 percent during the 2004-2009 period and a year-on-year increase of 27.2 percent in the first half of 2010.

Aquatic production value rose by 12.6 percent, industrial and handicraft production value by more than 34 percent, and trade and services by 25 percent, said Huyen, adding that per-capita income increased from VND5.3 million in 2004 to almost VND 10 million in 2010.

The proportions of seafood and trade and services in the whole economy continued to grow along with the consolidation of defence and security, he said.
