The National Assembly Committee for Ethnic Minorities will focus on building the Ethnic Minorities bill and a comprehensive development scheme for ethnic minorities in the northwestern, Central Highlands and Mekong delta regions for the 2010-2020 period.
At a meeting held in Hanoi on December 25 to discuss major tasks for 2007, the committee said it will continue finalising policies for the second phase of the socio-economic development programme for ethnic minorities and mountainous localities (or programme 135), amending subsidy policy and developing support programmes for underprivileged ethnic minorities.
Ethnic minorities in disadvantaged areas will continue to be provided with housing, land for housing and production, safe water and newspapers and magazines free of charge.
The council will propose to the Government a policy to support ethnic minorities' children who pass entrance exams to universities and professional high schools.
