NA Chairwoman expects stronger Vietnam-Myanmar relations

VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan showed her elation at the time-honoured friendship between Vietnam and Myanmar, especially the upgrade of bilateral ties to a comprehensive cooperative partnership level during Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong’s state visit to Myanmar last year.

National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on December 20 hosted a reception for U Than Htay, Chairman of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) of Myanmar, during which she urged the Union to enhance uphold their roles in boosting ties between the two legislative bodies, especially in inspecting the implementation of signed agreements between the two governments. 

The top Vietnamese legislator praised the socio- economic development achievements Myanmar has recorded over the past years, including the implementation of the peaceful and national reconciliation process, which has brought prosperity to Myanmar thus raising its regional and international profile.

Ngan expressed her confident that Myanmar would achieve good results in the process of building peace, implementing national reconciliation, and stimulating national development.

The two leaders said that Vietnam and Myanmar have enjoyed comprehensive cooperation with many similarities in terms of culture, history and religion, and over the past two years, both nation offered mutual support at regional and international forums.

Chairman Than Htay affirmed the USDP’s positive contributions to relations between Myanmar and Vietnamese lawmakers, as well as the two legislatures. 

Two-way trade turnover during the eight months of 2018 reached US$595 million, up 18% over the same period of 2017. Vietnam is Myanmar's seventh largest foreign investor with 18 projects totally capitalized at over US$2.1 billion.

The Vietnamese NA leader asked the USDP to support Vietnamese enterprises' business operations in Myanmar, while hoping that the Union would maintain its relationship with the Communist Party of Vietnam and back development of the two countries’ ties.
