National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has expressed the hope that the parliaments of Vietnam and Canada will boost cooperation and lay a foundation for promoting cooperation between the two countries.
While receiving Canadian Governor General David Johnston in Hanoi on November 17, NA Chairman Hung thanked the Canadian State and people for active supporting Vietnam’s socio-economic development projects and suggested that Vietnam and Canada bolster cooperation in politics, diplomacy, health care, trade and investment.
Vietnam is striving to rebuild the country after war, finalising mechanisms to boost economic development, speeding up hunger eradication and poverty reduction programmes and ensuring social security, said NA Chairman Hung.
He affirmed that Vietnam is making a comprehensive international integration in various fields and willing to cooperate with Canada in the interests of each side and for peace and development.
The Governor General expressed his belief that his first State visit to Vietnam will bring the two countries’ relations to a new height.
Johnston commended Vietnam on fulfilling the Millennium Development Goals, especially in hunger eradication and poverty reduction and improving people’s living conditions.
Vietnam and Canada can boast of many opportunities and a great potential for cooperation, he said, noting that both countries should constantly boost cooperative activities to make contributions to bolstering their friendship.
