NA Chairman holds talks with Philippine House Speaker
VOV.VN - Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives Martin Romualdez believes that the visit of National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue will add fresh impetus to promoting the strategic partnership across multiple fields between the Philippines and Vietnam in a more effective and practical manner.
Talks were held between NA Chairman Hue and Speaker Romualdez immediately after a welcome ceremony held on November 23 for the top Vietnamese legislator.
During talks, Speaker Romualdez expressed great appreciation for the first official visit to the Philippines by the Vietnamese NA leader and his high-ranking position, saying that this is one of the first visits of a foreign parliamentary leader to the Philippines after the country successfully held the General Election in May and had a new Senate and House leadership in July.
In response, NA Chairman Hue congratulated the Philippines on successfully holding its General Election on May 9 and personally noted Speaker Romualdez for being elected to his position.
NA Chairman Hue expressed his belief that the resolution to boost bilateral co-operation through the Philippine-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Assembly of the Philippine House of Representatives will be an important milestone in further strengthening ties between the two legislative bodies, as well as growing the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The Vietnamese NA leader went on to hail the comprehensive achievements of both the Philippine Government and legislature in the process of national construction and development over recent times, especially in terms of pandemic containment efforts and maintenance of high economic growth in the region.
The two leaders stated that high-level visits and meetings, most recently a series of bilateral meetings between President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh with the President of the Philippines on the occasion of the APEC Economic Leaders' Week and the recent ASEAN Summits, demonstrate the closeness and political trust between both nations’ leaders and people.
As part of the occasion, NA Chairman Hue reiterated the invitation of President Phuc to invite the President of the Philippines and his wife to visit Vietnam in the near future.
With regard to bilateral relations, the two leaders agreed to further strengthen the existing sound relations that exist between the two countries in fields such as politics, diplomacy, trade, and investment.
The Philippine Speaker therefore thanked the Vietnamese side for providing medical equipment for his country during the pandemic and for always being a reliable and stable rice supplier in the context of the global food crisis. He said he hopes that the Philippines can export more goods to Vietnam.
On this occasion, NA Chairman Hue cordially invited Speaker Romualdez to visit Vietnam soon, with his invitation being graciously accepted.
Also at the meeting, in the presence of parliamentarians of the two countries, the representative of the Philippine House of Representatives read the full text of Resolution 571 on strengthening co-operation between the Philippines and Vietnam through the Philippine-Vietnam Parliamentarians’ Friendship Society, which has just been adopted by all House Speaker members.
The resolution emphasized that among the 10 AIPA member parliaments, both nations have built a special relationship over the years, based on shared values, visions, and interests. This is being done for the benefit of the two peoples who have worked together towards peace and efficiency in terms of regional co-operation.
The Philippines therefore highly appreciates the importance of maintaining its friendship with other member states, especially with Vietnam, along with creating friendship, solidarity, and long-term co-operation with Southeast Asian countries, an important component to achieving peace and prosperity in the region.
