The visit will be made at the invitation of State President Nguyen Minh Triet.
Vietnam and Mozambique established diplomatic ties on June 25, 1975. On the sideline of international conferences and in the past visits, Mozambique has always wished Vietnam to cooperate in such fields as agriculture, education, training, and health. Mozambique has paid special attention to Vietnam’s achievements in poverty reduction, hunger elimination and community development.
In recent years, Mozambique has been politically stable and has obtained achievements in economic reforms and effective use of international aid. From 2001 up to now, Mozambique’s economic growth rate has been maintained at 7-8 percent per year. In 2005, the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate was 7.2 percent with export and import turnover reaching US$1.69 billion and US$2.04 billion respectively.
Through Mozambique President’s visit, Vietnam will reaffirm its foreign policy of diversification and multilateralisation of international relations. Vietnam will also continue implementing a national action plan to promote cooperation between Vietnam and Africa in the 2004-2010 period and sharing orientations and measures to boost cooperative relations in the fields of economics, trade, agriculture, health and education between the two countries.
