Present at the event were representatives from Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP), US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael Michalak and representatives from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC).

Remains were recovered during the 94^th joint field activities (JFA) from February to April 2009 between Vietnam and the US. This was the 109^th repatriation of remains of US soldiers missing in action since 1973.

Addressing the ceremony, a representative of the US Government appreciated the humanitarian policy, goodwill and effective cooperation of the Vietnamese Government and people.

The three boxes were transported to Hawaii for further identification.
