Vietnam and Bulgaria should increase dialogue to further develop their 60 years of co-operation, Bulgarian President George Parvanov said at a reception for Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung on July 7.

Welcoming Hung, who is leading a Government delegation and 20 businesses in a four-day visit which ends on July 9, Mr. Parvanov recalled the days when Vietnamese students, including Hung himself, came to study in the country.

“Bulgaria is an active member of the European Union and is always eager to develop relations with Asian countries, especially Vietnam,” he said.

The Bulgarian President praised Vietnam’s rising role at international and regional forums, saying that he was pleased to see significant changes in the country thanks to dynamism of the Party, State and Vietnamese people.

He also expressed his admiration for Vietnam in its effort to overcome difficulties caused by the world financial crisis and economic recession to continue its rapid development.

Mr. Parvanov said he hoped the two sides would work out concrete measures to speed up their economic links.

Deputy PM Hung said Vietnam always treasures Bulgaria’s sentiments and assistance during its national liberation and reconstruction cause.

Vietnam has overcome the global economic downturn and financial crisis and targeted an economic growth rate of 6.5-7 percent for this year, he said.

“Vietnam is a dynamic and attractive market for international investors and is playing its role as a bridge between Southeast Asian and European countries,” Mr. Hung said.

On the same day, Hung and his entourage laid a wreath at the Memorial for Unknown Soldiers in Sofia.

The visit takes place on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Bulgaria.
