A high-ranking Vietnamese military delegation led by Deputy National Defence Minister, General Nguyen Huy Hieu, paid an official visit to Brunei from March 27-29.

During the three-day visit, the delegation met and held talks with Brunei’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Pakuda Haji Mustappa Haji Sirat. The two parties highlighted bilateral relations in defence, which they said could match political relations between the two countries.

The two sides expected to further foster cooperative ties in many fields under the agreement on defence cooperation signed in November, 2005. They also agreed on the exchange of young officer exchanges, English language training, relief and rescue activities and anti-piracy in the future.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Hieu extended his thanks to the Brunei Ministry of Defence for helping Vietnam successfully organize military and defence meetings of ASEAN in 2010, especially the Fourth ASEAN Defence Ministers (ADMM-4) and the ASEAN Defence Minister’s Meeting - Plus (ADMM+) organized for the first time in Vietnam.
