The meeting was attended by politburo member and CPVCC Secretary and Head of the CPVCC Commission for Organization To Huy Rua, Head of the CPVCC’s Information and Education Commission, Dinh The Huynh, VJA Chairman and Minister of Information and Communication Le Doan Hop.
The Deputy Head of the CPVCC Information and Education Commission, Nguyen The Ky congratulated Mr To Huy Rua and Dinh The Huy on assuming new positions as well as some journalists on being elected to the CPVCC’s Standing Committee.
In his speech, Mr Rua praised the press’s significant contributions to national construction which has helped ensure social stability and reinforce solidarity among Party members.
He called on journalists nationwide to develop the revolutionary press, founded by late President Ho Chi Minh and provide up-to-date comprehensive and accurate information to serve the Doi Moi (Renewal) process.
On the occasion, Mr Huynh sent New Year’s greetings to journalists and wished them good health, happiness and success.
“The key task of the press in the future is to bring Party resolutions to life for the target of turning Vietnam into a modern and industrialised nation by 2020,” Mr Huynh emphasised.
During the Lunar New Year Festival (Tet), about 90 newspapers and foreign media agencies covered information and programmes about Vietnamese Tet. The Dep (Nice) Magazine from the Vietnam News Agency had the largest number of pages (347) featuring Tet, said Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Do Quy Doan.
