Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong has asked the Government Inspectorate to go ahead with reforms to be more effective in handling petitions and complaints.

He made this statement at a meeting held on Dec. 29 to review this year’s inspections and to draft tasks for the next year.

Mr Trong asked the agency to overcome existing shortcomings, such as late development of a detailed inspection mechanism, ineffective inspections and a lack of practical solutions to petitions and complaints.

He added that cooperation in the system from the central to local levels has remained ineffective.

The deputy PM requested the agency to improve its operation skills as well as the competence level of its staff.

The senior official said leaders should authorize specific officers to directly supervise and manage solutions to complicated complaints. These staff must also cooperate with relevant localities to find reasonable solutions to court cases, he added.

In 2009, the Government Inspectorate made 60,000 inspections and gave administrative punishments to more than 103,000 individuals and organizations. The agency solved more than 90 percent of the complaints it received this year.
