Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and Laos’ Ministry of Security will coordinate efforts to combat human trafficking and protect the victims of this social evil under a bilateral agreement signed in Hanoi on November 3.

The agreement stipulates cooperation in preventing human trafficking, detecting and fighting this crime, and increasing combat capacity in the field.

The two countries’ police forces will join hands to fight the crime of human trafficking on the basis of mutual respect for national independence, sovereignty, and equality for the sake of both Vietnam and Laos.

Bilateral cooperation also aims to rescue the victims, which requires close coordination between the functional agencies of Vietnam and Laos, said Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security General Le The Tiem.

Under the agreement, he said, the two sides will make an effort to complete their countries’ related laws and launch education and vocational programmes, and awareness campaigns.
