VOV.VN -Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan received a delegation from the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Association, led by its President Vilayvong Bouddakham in the city on August 24.

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan  hosts the President of Laos-Vietnam Friendship Association, Vilayvong Bouddakham (L).
Nhan described the special friendship, nurtured and developed by leaders and people of both countries as an invaluable asset that younger generations need to preserve and further cultivate.

He reiterated Ho Chi Minh City’s sustained efforts to launch a string of cooperation activities with the Lao side to further promote the friendship, including delegation exchange, experience sharing, and cooperation on economics, technology, education, and people-to-people exchange.

Nhan also showed his sympathy for the great losses the Lao people have suffered in the recent natural disaster and hydropower dam collapse in Attapeu.

He said he hopes that the Lao delegation’s visit would help further foster the relationship between the friendship associations of Vietnam and Laos, thereby reinforcing the sound neighbourliness and special friendship between the people of Ho Chi Minh City and also between Vietnam and Laos.

For his part, Bouddakham congratulated Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City on the recent socio-economic achievements, which he regarded as a source of encouragement for Laos in its national construction.

He thanked Vietnam for their timely and productive support, especially during the recent disasters in Laos and spoke of his belief that that despite the changing world situation, Vietnam-Laos ties will stay stable and thriving.

Despite having no shared border with Laos, HCM City has always received enthusiastic support. As a result, Vietnam has run more than 400 investment projects worth US$3.7 billion in Laos, including nearly US$350 million from Ho Chi Minh City. Especially, HCM City has also greatly helped Laos in training human resource over recent years.
