Lao newspapers continue to run articles marking Vietnam’s Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954) and its Great Spring Victory in 1975.

The Pathet Lao daily on May 6 and 7 ran praised the Dien Bien Phu Victory 56 years ago as an important factor in pushing the French colonists into signing the Geneva Agreement in July 1954.

The victory was a glorious milestone in the fight against French colonialism for national liberation and freedom in the 20th century and was the most decisive and strategic campaign, representing the Vietnamese people’s strength in their thousand-year history of national construction and defence, the articles said.

The victory opened up a new era and serve as a source of encouragement to the national liberation movement worldwide, the articles stated.

In an article on May 5, the Paxaxon newspaper underlined milestones of the war against the US imperialists that led to the final victory of the Ho Chi Minh campaign on April 30, 1975, opening a new era of national independence and freedom and development towards socialism.
