Choummaly Sayasone, Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of Laos, has expressed his desire to further strengthen the close bonds and mutual assistance between the Laos capital city of Vientiane and Vietnam’s largest economic hub Ho Chi Minh City.
The Lao President made the remarks while receiving a delegation from Ho Chi Minh City headed by Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Le Thanh Hai in Vientiane on April 13. He appreciated the effective cooperation between the two cities over the past years and hoped for more visit exchanges between them in the coming time.
The same day, the delegation paid a courtesy call to Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, who pledged to speed up the implementation of cooperation programmes between Vientiane and Lao localities and Ho Chi Minh City, in a number of fields.
Earlier, the delegation held in a working session with a high-level delegation from Vientiane, headed by Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Sombath Dialyho.
Both sides discussed measures to boost cooperation in education, sports, healthcare and trade in the near future. HCM CIty leaders pledged to hold a workshop to attract Vietnamese and other foreign investors to Vientiane and Laos.
The two sides agreed to organise a Vientiane Week in Ho Chi Minh City and a Ho Chi Minh City Week in Vientiane this year to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties and the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.
