Laos and Vietnam have great potential for cooperation, and I believe that with great support from their people, bilateral relationship will develop stronger in various areas, said ambassador Soonthorn Sayachack.

The ambassador made the statement during an interview granted to VOV prior to State President Nguyen Minh Triet’s official visit to Laos, starting on August 24.

She confirmed that Laos and Vietnam have treasured the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation for a long time. The relationship, founded by late Presidents Kaysone Phomvihane of Laos and Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam, has been fostered by generations of their successors and people.

“This relationship has stood the test of time and become a valuable asset of the two nations. It has existed and developed according to the law of nature. It has served as the decisive factor behind the victory of the revolution of each country throughout many decades,” said Ms Soonthorn Sayachack.

She said in the context of global integration when hostile forces attempt to undermine this relationship, both countries should work harder to maintain it.

“We should continue to educate our people, especially the younger generations, about this close bond, so that they are aware of their duties to preserve and develop it,” she said.

Currently, Vietnam and Laos are carrying out a joint project to compile a book on their special combat alliance in the 1930-2007. Ms Sayachack said the book will help the younger Vietnamese and Lao generations and international friends better understand this exemplary relationship.

The diplomat praised bilateral cooperation in cultural and social affairs, saying Vietnam has helped Laos improve the capacity building of the mass media, train human resources and develop information technology infrastructure.

She welcomed Radio the Voice of Vietnam’s decision to inaugurate its bureau in Vientiane the coming days, which she said will promote the image of Vietnam and its people, as well as the fine relationship between the two countries.
