Present at the inauguration were the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ho Xuan Son, who is also the head of the National Border Committee and Vietnam-Laos Joint Committee for Landmark Planting; and Laos’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bounkeut Sangsomsak, head of the Laos- Vietnam Joint Committee for Landmark Planting; as well as leaders and people from Quang Tri and Salavan provinces and people from the two countries.
Construction of landmark 635 began on September 3, 2010. It is one of the 16 major landmarks along the Vietnam-Laos border and the only one between Quang Tri and Salavan provinces.
The two provinces have committed to work closely with each other to complete landmark planting by 2012.
Quang Tri is the first of ten Vietnamese province that border Laos to carry out planting landmarks. Over the past two years, 31 of 35 landmarks between Quang Tri and Savanakhet provinces have been constructed.
