Kerry arrives in Vietnam on his last trip as secretary of state

VOV.VN - Secretary of State John Kerry returned to Vietnam on the evening of January 12 for his fourth visit to the Southeast Asian nation and his last official overseas visit as the US top diplomat.

His presence in Vietnam is a vivid symbol of the transformation of the two countries relations from enemies to partners. Above: Kerry exits his jet at Noi Bai International Airport.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc greets Mr Kerry on the morning of January 13 in Hanoi.

The US Secretary of State expresses his pleasure with the fine development of relations on many fronts over the past 20 years.

At talks, Prime Minister Phuc says he believes the two countries will continue to maintain momentum in promoting friendly and stable relations.

He also thanks Mr Kerry for his personal efforts to advance the normalization of Vietnam-US relations.

The Prime Minister stresses the need to maintain momentum in building relations and the importance of maintaining contacts and exchange of visits at all levels.

The US top diplomat says he’s delighted to return to visit Vietnam.

Kerry notes bilateral relations over the past two decades have developed very well in many areas.

He reaffirms the US commitment to respect the political institutions as well as the independent, sovereign and territorial integrity of Vietnam.
