Japanese media praise outcomes of Vietnam-Japan talks
VOV.VN - Major Japanese media outlets on May 2 carried detailed coverage of talks between Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and her Vietnamese counterpart Le Minh Hung and praised the outcomes.
In a programme broadcast on the afternoon of May 2, NHK reported in detail on the talks. According to NHK, at the outset of the meeting, Takaichi stressed that Japan “highly values relations with Vietnam, a country developing strongly and serving as an important hub in global supply chains, and expressed her wish to continue working together with Vietnam.
NHK also reported that the POWERR Asia energy support framework for Asian countries, centred on up to US$10 billion in support from Tokyo announced by Takaichi on April 15, was the first topic of discussion. Vietnam’s cooperation in ensuring supplies of oil and petroleum-based products, including medical supplies, was also affirmed.
Other outlets, including Fuji News Network, said that the two PMs agreed to promote cooperation in economic security, covering strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, energy, critical minerals and supply chains.
Japanese media placed particular emphasis on agreements reached in these areas, as well as PM Le Minh Hung’s expression of support for Japan’s efforts to contribute to peace and stability in the region and beyond, including the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) initiative.
Reports also cited remarks by both leaders at the talks and at the joint press meeting. The Japanese PM expressed her pleasure at reaffirming their shared determination to further advance the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, while the Vietnamese PM reiterated that Japan is one of Vietnam’s most important partners and a sincere and reliable friend.
Japanese public opinion holds that these agreements and statements will serve as a guarantee, a basis and a driving force for the further strong development of Japan-Vietnam relations.
