Japanese Crown Prince and Crown Princess to pay official visit to Vietnam

VOV.VN - Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and his wife are set to make an official visit to Vietnam from September 20-25 following an invitation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The visit takes place amid the extensive strategic partnership between the country and Japan seeing strong development in economics, trade, investment, defence-security, agriculture, labour, culture, culture, tourism, education-training, and expanding into new fields such as digital transformation and green transformation.

Mutual relations have high political trust with increasingly close regional links, along with shared common views on many regional and international co-operation issues.

This year will see both nations celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, with the two sides intensifying contacts and exchanges of senior leaders. Japanese Crown Prince Akishino visited the country twice in 1999 and 2021.

Japan continues to retain its position as the most important Vietnamese economic partner, ranking first in ODA aid, second in labour co-operation, third in investment and tourism, and fourth in trade exchanges.

Linkages in other fields such as defence, security, health care, agriculture, science and technology, digital transformation, education and training, and climate change response are also being actively carried out.

The two sides work closely together and effectively support each other at multilateral forums and in international and regional issues of shared concern.

This visit of Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and his wife is of special significance as it is the first overseas trip by the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess after the COVID-19 pandemic, whilst also being the first visit to Vietnam of members of the Japanese Imperial Family six years after the visit by the Emperor and Empress of Japan in 2017.

The visit will contribute to promoting the extensive strategic partnership between both sides to new heights, enhancing mutual understanding of the two countries' people about the achievements in bilateral ties over the past five decades, and creating a solid basis to further step up local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
