Ivorian parliamentary speaker concludes official visit to Vietnam
VOV.VN - President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire Patrick Achi led a high-level parliamentary delegation out of Hanoi on the morning of August 26, concluding his official visit to Vietnam from August 23 to 26 at the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.
During his stay in Vietnam, Ivorian National Assembly President Patrick Achi paid tribute at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and laid a wreath at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs on Bac Son Street in Hanoi.
Party General Secretary and President To Lam received President of the National Assembly Patrick Achi, while NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man presided over the official welcoming ceremony and chaired talks with the Ivorian legislative leader.
At these meetings, Vietnamese leaders welcomed the visit by the Ivorian parliamentary head, marking the first visit by the leader of an African legislature to Vietnam since the start of the 16th National Assembly tenure.
Building upon a series of meaningful activities held in 2025 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1975-2025), Vietnamese leaders expressed confidence that President Patrick Achi’s visit will open a new chapter in the warm friendship and fruitful cooperation between the two countries and their legislative bodies.
Welcoming the Parliament of Côte d’Ivoire for organizing its first study delegation to exchange experience with the National Assembly of Vietnam, led by a Vice President of the National Assembly immediately following President Patrick Achi’s visit, Vietnamese leaders proposed that both sides position parliamentary cooperation as a core pillar of bilateral ties. Priority should be given to effectively implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on parliamentary cooperation, exploring the early establishment of Friendship Parliamentarian Groups in each legislature, and bolstering exchanges on legislative and supervisory experience.
Patrick Achi expressed heartfelt gratitude for the warm reception extended to the delegation by the Party, State, and people of Vietnam.
Expressing delight at witnessing Vietnam’s remarkable development achievements after 40 years of Doi Moi (Renovation), the Ivorian legislative leader reaffirmed that Vietnam’s success serves as an inspiration and a model for African nations striving toward national construction and development.
The Ivorian parliamentary leader expressed hope that the two legislatures will serve as a regular forum for dialogue, mutual learning, and cooperation across agriculture, processing and manufacturing, digital transformation, private investment, human resource development, and development finance mobilization.
During the visit, both parliamentary leaders toured an agricultural development model in Can Tho. The Ivorian NA President had a working visit to the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA).
