Italy, Vietnam affirm international standing through distinct national identities
VOV.VN - Senior officials from Vietnam and Italy have underscored the deepening strategic ties between the two countries during the celebration for Vietnam's 81st National Day, affirming that both nations secure their global standing by preserving their distinct national identities.
The event, hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy, drew high-ranking figures including Minister of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Nguyen Dinh Khang, who is on a working visit to Italy, and Deputy Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy Valentino Valentini, alongside Italian government representatives, Vatican officials, the diplomatic corps, and the Vietnamese community in Italy.
Opening the event, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Anh highlighted Vietnam's 81-year historic journey since the Declaration of Independence, outlining the guiding principles of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which places people and culture at the center while driving green and digital transitions.
She reaffirmed the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Italy nurtured since 1973, pointing to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man's official visit in April as proof of deepening bilateral ties.
Bilateral trade has surpassed EUR 6.7 billion (US$7.6 billion), cementing Vietnam as Italy's leading trade partner within ASEAN. Direct air routes connecting Hanoi and Milan, together with 5,000 Vietnamese expatriates in Italy, provide vital channels for economic and people-to-people exchanges.
In his address, Deputy Minister Valentino Valentini praised the resilience of the Vietnamese nation and people, affirming that both Italy and Vietnam maintain their global standing by preserving their distinct identities. Amid global uncertainties, he underlined the critical value of reliable major partners.
Economic cooperation is expanding rapidly, ranging from Italian machinery carried out in Vietnamese factories and surging coffee exports to integrated value chains combining Vietnamese manufacturing with Italian technology. Both nations are also broadening cooperation into new fields, including defence, energy transition, and aerospace.
The celebration concluded with traditional musical performances by artists from the Vietnamese Cultural Center in France and a presentation of Vietnamese culinary heritage, thus reinforcing the enduring friendship and long-term strategic vision between the two countries.
