Iowa wants closer ties with Vietnam

(VOV) - The Iowa State attaches great importance to strengthening ties with Vietnam, said Governor Terry Branstad at a reception for Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong on November 14.

Branstad congratulated Vietnam on its recent socio-economic achievements and expressed his hope that Vietnam’s active participation in Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations with the US and other countries will open up trade and investment opportunities for many countries in the region.

He said he was pleased to see the constant growth of trade exchange between Iowa and Vietnam, with Iowa’s exports to Vietnam rising nearly 40 percent in 2011.

Ambassador Cuong affirmed Vietnam’s wish to promote cooperation with Iowa not only in economics and trade exchange but also in other fields such as education, agriculture, and health care.

He praised governor Branstad’s support for trade liberalization and efforts to help speed up TPP negotiations.
