International friends have highlighted Vietnam’s achievements in all fields, especially after 25 years of Doi Moi (Renewal) process on the occasion of Vietnam’s National Day.

Late President Ho Chi Minh delivered a Declaration of Independence for the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945. This is a major event for the nation, which has been admired all around the world.

Vietnam’s victories against imperialists have strongly encouraged people from Asia, Africa and Latin American to rise up against oppression.

Many foreigners have been attracted by Vietnam’s glorious history, its beautiful landscapes and friendly people. They also consider Vietnam their second homeland.

In August, nearly 4 million overseas Vietnamese head back to their homeland. International friends have also spoken highly of Vietnam’s achievements in all fields. A VOV reporter noted some assessments of the Vietnamese community abroad and international friends on the occasion of Vietnam’s National Day.

Dr. Yin Sereivoth, Cambodia’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport: Vietnam has achieved spectacular developments.

Dr. Yin Sereivoth has had a strong attachment to Vietnam from his youth and considers Vietnam his second homeland.

Dr. Yin Sereivoth said that he has witnessed celebrations of Vietnam’s National Day and August Revolution. He emphasised that September 2, 1945 is an important milestone in the history of the nation. “I think that every Vietnamese citizen has always kept in mind the country’s glorious history and continued the revolutionary cause.”

He added that from a background of poverty and war, Vietnam has achieved spectacular developments in economics, politics, national defence, security and diplomacy - raising Vietnam’s prestige in the region and the international arena.

Former UNESCO General Director: Vietnam - an important nation

During an August visit to Vietnam, Mr Koichiro Matsuura, former General Director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) said that he has witnessed Vietnam’s changes through each working visit to the country. He said that Vietnam has become an important nation not only in Asia but also in the world, and that Vietnamese people can be extremely proud of this.

Claude Blanchemaison, former French ambassador to Vietnam: Vietnam has affirmed its prestige in the international arena.

Many people are very surprised at the rapid development of Vietnam. Mr. Blanchemaison said in the past, during his stay in Vietnam, he had  to go shopping in Bangkok whereas now he could buy anything in big and luxurious stores in Vietnam.

Vietnam has integrated effectively in the region and affirmed its prestige in the world by joining ASEAN, becoming a member of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and participating in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). It has also been admitted to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Dr. Professor Artha Nanthachuka, from Thailand’s University of Maha Sarakham: Vietnam has been successful in training human resources

Dr. Professor Artha Nanthachuka, a lecturer in the history of South East Asia, said that apart from economic development, Vietnam has succeeded in training high quality human resources and talent.

He said that he was very keen on changes in education and culture in Vietnam. These are positive changes as the Government of Vietnam has put forward clear policies in education and culture, he added.
