President Truong Tan Sang on February 5 received 81 international poets who were in Hanoi to attend the first Asia-Pacific Poetry Festival.

Many speeches by the foreign poets coming from 27 nations to the festival focused on the theme ‘Poetry for a peaceful, cooperative and developed Asia-Pacific’.

They highly appreciated Vietnamese writers for their organization of the festival and proposed ideas for holding the festival again in the coming years, said Huu Thinh, President of the Vietnam Writers’ Association.

At the meeting with the State President, the international poets affirmed that poetry helps them understand more about the soul and personality of Vietnam.

On this occasion, the literature and arts associations of many nations established their ties with the Vietnam Writers Association for the first time.

Meanwhile, the President said poetry has served as a great spiritual encouragement to the Vietnamese nation in the face of harsh challenges in history.

The Vietnamese people always love and want to learn the quintessence of Asian and world poetry, he said, adding that Vietnam welcomes and offers favourable conditions for international poets and culturologists to join literature and art activities in the country.
