International community gives positive assessments of Vietnam’s leadership consolidation

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s consolidation of its top leadership for a new term has drawn attention and positive assessments from the international community.

From the perspective of a multilateral organization, Ramla Khalidi, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, said the goals Vietnam has set for its new development phase are fully aligned with global sustainable development trends. She noted that Vietnam is pursuing a clear long-term vision to become an upper middle-income country by 2030 and move toward high-income status by 2045.

The country  has gradually implemented these goals through a range of policies and reforms across multiple areas, including science and technology, education, healthcare, institutional organization and international integration.

According to the UNDP representative, what is notable is Vietnam’s growth targets, reform efforts and its way of development, which places people at the center.

She noted that a consistent message emphasized in the inaugural speeches of Vietnamese leaders is that the ultimate goal of all development efforts is people, and that citizens must be both the focus and the beneficiaries of development outcomes.

Meanwhile, Ito Naoki, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, extended congratulations to the new leadership and expressed confidence that Vietnam will continue to step up reforms and pursue higher growth targets in the coming period. He said Japan will continue to support the reform direction being implemented in Vietnam, particularly under the strong leadership of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, adding that the new leadership is expected to accelerate reforms to boost economic growth, aim for double-digit growth and achieve the two centennial goals in 2030 and 2045.

Japan’s support for Vietnam in recent years has been reflected in economic cooperation, investment and development assistance programs.

One highlight of bilateral cooperation is a US$330 million loan extended by the Japan International Cooperation Agency for projects on climate change and disaster management. Ambassador Ito said this represents a new form of ODA, focused on strategic areas such as green transition, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and the semiconductor industry.

For her part, Gillian Bird, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, also welcomed Vietnam’s leadership consolidation and its continued positive development direction. She said Vietnam has made major advances in economic and social development over past decades, and that the continued setting of ambitious goals by the Party and government reflects strong confidence in the country’s future development. She also shared similarities in how the two countries pursue development and integration.

She added that Australia strongly supports Vietnam’s development goals, and that in the current challenging international context, it is encouraging that both Vietnam and Australia continue to prioritize international integration and maintain an open, outward-looking approach.

She said this is highly important and expressed Australia’s readiness to continue working with Vietnam as a comprehensive strategic partner that is reliable and sustainable.

International partners also noted Vietnam’s increasingly proactive role in the region and globally. From active participation in multilateral mechanisms to taking on important roles on the international stage, Vietnam is emerging as a dynamic and responsible country ready to contribute to common  global issues. This further strengthens partners’ confidence in a Vietnam that is not only achieving strong economic growth, but also steadily enhancing its political and diplomatic standing.
