The Central Steering Committee for Combating Corruption met with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) in Hanoi on December 28 to review their joint efforts in preventing and combating corruption.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong said that in 2009 the Committee coordinated closely with the VFFCC in the fight against corruption, resulting in positive initial outcomes and contributing significantly to the nation’s efforts to combat the scourge.

The Government leader said that efforts to prevent and combat corruption were successful in some fields, particularly in reducing economic decline, maintaining political security and social order, and promoting national socio-economic development.

However, he shared his view with VFFCC Chairman Huynh Dam that the fight against corruption in the past was not tough enough as the scourge has continued to occur in a serious and complicated manner, raising deep concerns in people and society.

The Deputy PM underscored that anti-corruption work is a long, complicated process facing numerous obstacles and requiring the dedication of the entire society.

In 2010, the work needs to be deployed more strongly to affirm the political will of the Party, the State, the entire political system and the people to fight off the scourge, Deputy PM Trong said.
