The newly-appointed Vietnamese ambassador to Indonesia, Nguyen Xuan Thuy, presented his credentials to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyhono on June 8.

At a reception for the ambassador, President Yudhoyhono expressed his delight at the development of Indonesia-Vietnam traditional relations and Vietnam’s achievements in the current process of renewal and integration into the region and the world as a whole.

He also appreciated Vietnam’s positive contributions to the development of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and expressed his hope that ambassador Thuy will fulfill his mission and contribute to promoting the friendship between the two countries.

The Vietnamese diplomat pledged to make every effort to tighten the ties between the two governments and people for peace, security, stability, cooperation, and prosperity in the region.

He said he believes that Indonesia will fulfill its role as ASEAN chair in 2011.
