Indian parliamentary leader begins official visit to Vietnam

VOV.VN - Speaker of the Indian Lok Sabha Om Birla and his delegation arrived in Hanoi on April 19, beginning their three-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

Om Birla was warmly welcomed by Chairman of the NA’s Committee for External Relations Vu Hai Ha and Vice Chairman Dinh Cong Sy at Noi Bai International Airport.

A welcome ceremony for the Indian lower house speaker was held at the NA building on the same day.

The visit takes place amid the Vietnam-India comprehensive strategic partnership growing steadily based on higher political trust and close relations between the two legislatures.

It is one of the major political events between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Indian Lok Sabha to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of Vietnam-India diplomatic ties (1972 – 2022).

The visit is designed to further foster the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, maintain high-level delegation exchanges between the two countries and their law-making bodies, and carry out bilateral cooperation activities within the agreement signed between the Vietnamese NA and the Indian Lok Sabha in September 2016.

During the visit, Om Birla is due to pay courtesy visits to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and  President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and hold meetings with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Both top legislators will also attend a ceremony to announce the opening of new routes to India by budget carrier Vietjet Air.
