Vietnam and India held the first strategic dialogue and the fourth political consultative meeting in New Delhi on October 15.

The meetings were co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Dao Viet Trung and his Indian counterpart, Neelakantan Ravi.

They reviewed bilateral relations since the two countries established strategic partnership in July 2007 and discussed measures to boost cooperation in politics, economics, trade, investment, credit, oil and gas, science and technology, IT, communication, national security, education and culture.

They agreed to increase the exchange of delegations in future and to convene the 14th Vietnam-India joint committee in Vietnam soon to develop their strategic partnership.

While discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern, the two sides agreed to maintain close cooperation at regional and international forums, including the ASEAN-Indian cooperation framework, the East Asia Summit (EAS), the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) forum, the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the United Nations (UN).

They shared the view that both countries should work closer together to speed up ASEAN-India cooperation, especially when Vietnam takes over the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2010.

They agreed to organise the second strategic dialogue and the fifth political consultative meeting in Vietnam in 2010.
